Student voices are the backbone of our community at the School of Architecture, and it only made sense to have them be the backbone of the Comprehensive Diversity Initiative. To capture student sentiment toward the existing curriculum and community, we ran a 14-question survey from June 22nd through June 29th. In addition to multiple choice questions, the survey provided students with space to make anonymous reports on discrimination and to provide suggestions on how to improve the program. These narratives and suggestions inspired the content that became the six points of the Comprehensive Diversity Initiative. Responses reflected broad support for structural changes to make the School of Architecture more representative, inclusive, and empowering for marginalized groups-- namely BIPOC, Women, LGBTQ+, and international students.
